The Parade was enjoyed by slightly-less folks than previous years; but the smoke from the California fires didn't inhibit the spirit of the day. Water sports were the venue of the day; however, the Truckee River rafting companies reported less-than-usual activity -- possibly due to the ban on booze for that day?
But, it was all about FIREWORKS --
Donner Lake still had THE BEST display -- EVER. Thankfully, there were very little non-authorized fireworks and no local fires started. Boats on the Lake behaved themselves, but we still saw one vessel without any lights on -- VERY DANGEROUS for that night. The Town of Truckee's "Navy" along with Nevada County patrol boats helped keep the speed down after the display.
Donner Lake Realty collected $500 by selling parking spots and, as has been the tradition for over 15 years, gave it to the Truckee Donner Recreation and Parks District for future fireworks. The day after, there was very little "litter" surrounding the West End Beach.
Make your plans, now, for enjoying our
4th next year.
